The original sphinx in Egyptian mythology, was depicted as having the body of a lion, wings and a human face. The creature was invariably male and acted in a benevolent manner. The sphinx, as manifest in its role as guardian of the pyramids, is seen as the embodiment of royalty.

This manifestation of the great sphinx, called a crisosphinx, has a ram's head and a lion's body. Under the head stands an Egyptian king with arms crossed holding an ankh, the symbol of eternal life, in each hand.

This is a superior quality product of hand painted cold cast resin. Felt on bottom. Detail is good throughout and the piece has a strong presence. Measures 4.5" high x 8" long - candles not included. Good luck bidding for this pair of candleholders!
